Washington County, Maine, offers some of the best grouse hunting and woodcock hunting available. There is an abundance of second growth habitat and the flat terrain is hunter and hunting dog friendly. Numerous logging roads, snowmobile trails and classic abandoned farmlands offer the needed terrain and edges to sustain the large population of woodcock & grouse. Bring your dogs with you and go woodcock hunting or grouse hunting on your own, or hire a guide to show you the best covers. Either way, your hunting vacation in the Maine woods during the spectacular fall foliage will be one to remember.
Woodcock Hunting Shows Filmed at Leen's Lodge
There is not prettier place in America than the woods and fields of Eastern Maine in October. The vibrant colors, cool weather and abundance of birds make it a graet destination for bird hunters. Leen's Lodge has been fortuante enough to host three bird huntings shows on woodcock hunting. Great dog work, beautiful scenery and exciting flushes and kills highlight the three shows.
The first show was shot in 2002 with Bruce Scott and Marty Fisher of The Shotgun Journal. It was a very successful show that was noted to be one of the best woodcock shows ever produced.
Our 2005 season was earmarked with two hunting shows. Benelli's American Gun Dog with host Harley Jackson was with us in mid October and collected great footage of a woodcock hunt featuring our great bird dogs. Later in the same month, Chris Batha did a show with us tht is featured in "Wingshooting The World With Chris Batha".

If you would like us to send you a copy of the three woodcock hunting shows, please fill out our contact form and mention in your comments to send the Bird Hunting DVD.

What to Bring for Woodcock & Grouse
By Joe McMillan
When David Trevallion came to Leen’s Lodge this past season he offered a new concept up for a woodcock gun. This concept gun would be short-barreled, synthetic stocked, armor plated & included hedge shears mounted to the muzzles! Maybe not the classic upland game gun, but the hedge trimmers appealed to me! |
