A.J. McLane, in his book “Gamefish of North America” claimed that the area around Grand Lake Stream, Maine, was the heartland of smallmouth bass fishing. The various lakes and rivers in the area give the fisherman many choices, and almost guarantee a day of great Maine smallmouth bass fishing regardless of foul weather. During the month of June, an experienced fisherman can expect to catch 50-100 smallmouth bass per day!
The Maine smallmouth bass range from 1-4 pounds with five and six pounders caught every year. Our bass fishing starts in late May and continues through the summer. September is a month of change, but still offers some great bass and smallmouth bass fishing. From the first of June through July, smallmouth bass can be caught on flies, surface or shallow running lures and rubber baits.
